TEAM

The people behind the work.

Gulick & Co. is built on the strength of its people. The team here represent the core team you’ll work with throughout the design build process, but they are part of a much larger group, including a dedicated field crew and in house cabinetry shop.

Projects move forward through collaboration by sharing ideas and working through decisions together from design through construction.

TRAVIS GULICK

MANAGING PARTNER

Travis Gulick is the owner of Gulick & Co., where he leads residential construction and custom cabinetry projects throughout Madison and the surrounding shoreline communities. His work is rooted in problem-solving, thoughtful planning, and helping homeowners understand what is possible within their property.

Travis grew up around construction, spending years on job sites and learning how buildings come together long before he formally entered the field. Critical problem-solving, navigating constraints, and figuring out how to make complex ideas work in real life became the part of building that mattered most to him.

After two years at James Madison University, a visit to the Savannah College of Art and Design introduced Travis to historic preservation, a discipline that sharpened his interest in feasibility, regulations, and working within existing structures. His early professional experience deepened that focus, reinforcing how design decisions, town requirements, and real-world use intersect.

Travis spent years working alongside his father, Peter Gulick, learning the business from the ground up while the company was still small. In 2014, he became owner of Gulick & Co., continuing to build the firm with a focus on collaboration, clarity, and long-term client relationships.

Today, Travis stays closely involved in every project from start to finish, working side by side with homeowners through design, zoning, and town approvals. He often helps clients navigate complex variance processes and find solutions that allow their homes to evolve in thoughtful ways. For Travis, the work is about more than approvals or plans. It’s about understanding how people live and being fully committed to delivering results that clients feel proud of long after the project is complete.

Travis lives in Madison with his two sons and remains an active member of the Madison Volunteer Fire Department, reflecting the same commitment to community that shapes both his work and his life.

HARVEY TREAT

PARTNER &

HEAD OF FIELD OPERATIONS

Harvey Treat has been part of Gulick & Co. since its earliest days, long before it became the company it is today.  A lifelong Madison resident, Harvey started his own landscaping business in high school and joined the Madison Volunteer Fire Department as a teenager. It was through the fire department that he met Peter Gulick in the early 1990s, beginning a working relationship that would span decades.

Harvey began working with Pete as a laborer while running his own landscaping business and attending college at Southern Connecticut State University. He earned a degree in Business Management while learning carpentry the hands-on way - working alongside experienced builders, asking questions, and studying trade publications like Fine Homebuilding. In 2004, he joined the company full time as a carpenter and steadily took on greater responsibility as the business grew.
Today, Harvey is a partner and leads field operations across all active projects, with direct involvement on every job site and responsibility for day-to-day construction decisions. While he no longer wears a tool belt daily, his carpentry background informs every decision he makes, and he remains deeply involved in the work on site.

He takes particular pride in the experience clients have throughout a project, believing that how a job is handled matters as much as the finished result - especially when families are living through renovations. Known for his steady presence and problem-solving mindset, Harvey focuses on keeping projects organized and communication clear.

Outside of work, Harvey lives in Madison with his wife, has been an active member of the Madison Volunteer Fire Department for over 35 years, and continues to serve a community he has called home his entire life.

Shane Walden Senior Project Manager Cabinetry Madison CT
SHANE WALDEN

SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER & CABINETRY LEAD

Shane joined Gulick & Co. in 2008, bringing a background in architecture, hands-on problem solving, and a deep respect for how buildings are meant to work. Raised in Guilford and surrounded by historic homes, he developed an early interest in construction and design, particularly how older structures adapt over time.

He studied architecture at the University of Colorado at Boulder, earning a degree in environmental design, and spent a decade as a professional sailor before returning to Connecticut. Life at sea required constant maintenance, adaptability, and practical decision-making skills that continue to shape his approach to building.

Shane started at Gulick & Co. as a laborer, learning every phase of construction by doing. As the company grew, he became deeply involved in cabinetry design and production, working for years in the two-car garage attached to Pete Gulick’s home, where the company’s cabinetry was originally built by hand. That experience gave him a detailed understanding of how design affects construction, the installation process, and durability.

Today, Shane works across both Gulick & Co. and Saltwood Cabinetry, overseeing cabinetry design feasibility, procurement and project readiness across the company and project coordination. He serves as a critical bridge between design, shop, and field teams, helping ensure that projects are thoughtful, buildable, and executed with care.

He lives in Guilford on property that has been in his family for generations and remains active in the community through volunteer leadership at the Sachems Head Yacht Club.

RACHEL LEA

CREATIVE DIRECTOR

Rachel is the Creative Director at Gulick & Co. and Saltwood Cabinetry, where she helps shape the design direction of each project from concept through completion. She works closely with clients and the team to make design decisions that feel intuitive, well considered, and appropriate to the home, balancing aesthetics with how spaces will actually be used day to day.

Originally from Kent, England, Rachel attended art college and began her career in graphic and textile design, before transitioning into interior and residential design – her long standing passion. Through renovating historic properties and working on hospitality interiors, she developed a grounded understanding of construction and how thoughtful design choices hold up over time. That experience continues to shape how she approaches each project.

At Gulick & Co., Rachel is deeply invested in helping clients understand what they are drawn to and translating that into spaces that feel thoughtful, functional, and lasting. She has a strong instinct for color, materials, and layout, and a calm, considered way of guiding decisions without imposing a particular style. Known for her careful listening and steady judgment, she approaches design as a responsibility, prioritizing trust, collaboration, and choices that hold up over time while remaining true to both the client and the home.

Rachel resides in Madison with her husband and has three children. Outside of the office, she enjoys painting and can often be found down by the water indulging her love of the ocean - roller skating, paddle boarding or swimming.

NAthan GOULD

CABINET SHOP ENGINEER & MANAGER

Nathan Gould is the Cabinet Shop Engineer and Manager at Gulick & Co., where he oversees the engineering and execution of custom cabinetry through Saltwood Cabinetry.

He grew up in Madison and attended Daniel Hand High School, where a boatbuilding course introduced him to precision craftsmanship and hands-on problem solving.

Nathan went on to study at the International Yacht Restoration School in Newport, Rhode Island, completing a wooden boat restoration program along with additional training in marine systems. The restoration mindset he developed there continues to inform his work today, particularly when replicating historic details and designing cabinetry for older homes.

After returning to Connecticut in 2017, Nathan worked at Mystic Seaport Museum as a shipwright on the restoration of a replica of the Mayflower, gaining experience in large-scale timber framing, planking, and mechanical systems.

Nathan joined Gulick & Co. in 2019, beginning in the cabinet shop and steadily expanding his role as the company grew. He now manages the engineering side of cabinetry projects, developing detailed shop drawings and build plans that connect design vision with real-world execution. His work is driven by precision and practicality, balancing what looks good with what will function properly, fit accurately, and stand the test of time.

Nathan lives in Guilford with his wife, Alessandra, and their three dogs. Outside of work, he builds boats at home and teaches mountain bike riding and racing to kids at Rockland Park in North Madison during the summer months.

EMILY ROISE

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNER

Emily is a drafter and designer at Gulick & Co., leading the development of design and construction drawings. She is responsible for translating client goals and field measurements into precise documents, working closely with the team to ensure projects move forward clearly and efficiently. From initial site visits to revisions during construction, she plays a central role in guiding ideas to take shape.

Originally from Deep River, Emily attended Valley Regional High School before earning her degree in Interior Design from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. Her education was grounded in architectural practices, including hand drafting, concept development, and construction documentation. Her connection to building began long before college. Raised by a civil engineer and a landscape architect, she grew up surrounded by site plans and drafting supplies.

After graduating from Pratt, Emily worked at a high-end architecture and design firm in Manhattan for seven years, contributing to luxury residential projects and gallery spaces. The experience sharpened her understanding of scale, materiality, and programming while reinforcing her passion for the technical side of design.

Returning to the Connecticut shoreline, she joined Gulick & Co., gravitating to the hands-on design-build environment and the opportunity to work within her community. She approaches each project with focus and care, driven by the accuracy required to make what is drawn work as intended once built.

Emily lives in Chester. Outside of work, she enjoys time with family and friends, live music, and local galleries to stay connected with the creativity that first sparked her interest in design.
